The Society of

Critical Care Technologists

The society is the professional governing body for Critical Care Technologists. 
SCCT holds the voluntary register for Clinical Technologists 
working in Critical Care, and is an active member of the
 Federation of Healthcare Science, in the division of Physiological Sciences.
 

Our Aim / Mission Statement
To promote and develop safe and effective use of technological
systems for the benefit and care of critically ill patients.
   
Our Objectives

  Define and develop training programmes
  Provide support system for other professionals
  Raise profile of Role
  Establish career structure
  Establish professional standards
  Acquire and disseminate knowledge necessary for the use of technological systems
  Establish links with other professional and government / legal bodies
  Aim for professional state registration to enable professional regulation
 

  A Critical Care Technologist is:

 “A specially trained Health Care Scientist, with expert knowledge of the physiology
and technology involved in delivery of critical care to patients
as part of a multidisciplinary team.”

 

This lists just some of the functionality of the Critical Care Technologists:

    Equipment management, procurement, maintenance and repair.
    Stat laboratory management, near patient testing, quality contol,
  blood analysis etc.
    Physiological monitoring, support and diagnostic techniques, eg respiratory
  therapy,extra-corporeal circuits, temporary pacing, IABP, cannulation,
  intubation, etc.
    Patient transfers, both internal and external
    Scientific and technical training of medical, nursing, and other
  healthcare scientists and AHP’s.
    Research and audit.
    Risk management
